Spike Hogan
Lead Pastor
spike@chetscreek.com
My legal name is Stephen Ellis Hogan, but when I was about 3 days old my Uncle Buddy noted that my hair stuck straight up on my head, thus the nickname “Spike” that I have had all my life.

I was born in Baton Rouge, LA (Geaux Tigers), and lived in Hammond, LA, until moving to the big city of Petal, MS. While in High School I played football was involved in Student Government and had an opportunity to go to West Point Military Academy. During my senior year, I had a clear sense that God was calling me to full-time Christian service.

I attended William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, and earned a degree in church music and met my lovely wife Kitty (our Children’s Minister at Chets Creek). After graduation Kitty and I “went on the road” and traveled with a Christian Band called “Sound of Joy”. There were 8 singers, 5 band members, 1 sound tech, and 1 bus driver all on 1 bus after our first 4 months of marriage…what a honeymoon.

After serving a church in Pensacola, FL, we then moved to Ft. Worth, TX, where I attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary and received my Masters Degree. During this time our two daughters, Lindsay and Lauren, were born. After seminary, I served churches in Pensacola and Ft. Walton Beach.

In 1995, I was invited to join the staff of the Florida Baptist Convention as a Church Growth and Pastoral Ministries Consultant in Jacksonville. During this time, God began speaking to me about the importance of churches reaching out to the un-churched. He gave me a heart to help churches reach out in new and different ways. Little did I know He was preparing me for Chets Creek.

In 1998 I began working with the core team at Chets Creek and in the fall of 1999 they asked me to be their first Lead Pastor. I started in October of 1999 and have experienced some of the greatest ministry days of my life. To God alone belongs all of the glory and honor for what He has done here. I thank Him daily for the privilege of serving at Chets Creek Church. I believe our greatest days are still ahead of us. We have much to be thankful for, yet much still to accomplish.
